Multiple Landscapes

Skins

The core production of Paper Factor focuses on interior design applications, offering a collection of selected skins or solid elements to create 3D scenarios.
The skins by Paper Factor are created by hand and by machines, created out of contrast and homogeneity, tradition, and physical manipulation and experimentation. The products, always customisable, even in their standard versions, retain details of happy imperfection to bespeak their origins in manual work.
Variable in mixture, texture, size and patterns, multi-layered and multicoloured, Paper Factor panels and mosaics can be applied to walls, ceilings or furniture, vertical and horizontal surfaces.

Veins

Skin

Pigmented veining flows along the sides of the impasto, oriented by the action of gradual manual pressure, thus imbuing the charm of a minimal, frozen movement against vast neutral backgrounds. Easily adapted to the greatest gamut of design solutions, Veins generates a spatiality that is unencumbered by colors and oriented toward the play of light. Reminiscent of marble, of stone, of wood, of the mosses and lichens of Salento, of time that marks and makes its own the calcareous stone.
The lines confound and cross casually, and after the various phases of processing, they declare themselves in their continuous beauty.Enquire +

Inlay

Skin

Inspired by the ancient technique of intarsia, the surfaces of Inlay exploit the physical qualities of Paper Factor, allowing the cellulose paste components added to the pigments or left in natural tonalities to smoothly join each other during the pressing and assemblage. This results in surfaces with spotted effects, with defined shapes, even within the random movements of the play of colors.
These markings define Inlay as the most daring skin of the Paper Factor collection: in the visual force of its panels or in the entertaining puzzle of its mosaics, it is equally adapted to simple re-covering projects as it is to projects that are designed to make spaces utterly unique.Enquire +

Ruts

Skin

Obtained by stretching the impasto first by hand and then with CNC machining, Ruts alternates between flat portions, reminiscent of stone, to rectangular sections to create a succession with a solid and fortunate rhythm. The "cadence" of its grooves can be more or less dense, continuous or interrupted, but in each of its versions and in all the different colors, Ruts reveals, thanks to the intervention of the machine, the material uniqueness of Paper Factor. They are indeed hard, mechanized cuts that speak of the very fiber of the paper as it pushes toward new dynamic and formal borders.Enquire +

Informale

Skin

Stretched and hammered by hand, the Informal collection takes shape, generating lunar surfaces, organic and inorganic, almost like a leather with an irregular and unexpected design. Composed of solids and shallows, of pressure and material depressions, serrations and natural curls. Stories of a physicality to be explored by scrolling with hands and eyes along a different path, always in evolution. Among the skins, this is the one with the highest tactile value, all the while maintaining the technical features of impermeability and durability that characterize all of the Paper Factor products.Enquire +

Piano

Skin

The most versatile of the Paper Factor skins, Piano implies a handmade nature revealed in a subtle and elegant manner through its surfaces polished by machine. The leveling action of a pantograph acts on the material, stretched by hand and then dried, bringing out unusual and fascinating aesthetic games. "Available" in all color interpretations, Piano is the most minimalist of the Paper Factor surfaces: its smooth skin, susceptible to the slightest imperfections, is an excellent starting point for establishing the discourses of the most diverse spaces, whether on a small or large scale.Enquire +

A new micro-paper compound for furnishing

About

Paper Factor was created from the exceptional qualities of a solid surface material made from a new compound of micro-paper: an innovative evolution of papier-mâché, scientifically tested and developed in collaboration with the University of Salento.
Paper Factor is strong, durable, and incredibly light.
Available in various formats and combinations — from large panels to small modules that can be assembled like a mosaic — it is ideal for re-covering surfaces both vertical and horizontal: ceilings, walls, as well as furniture.

All products are hand-made and finished with techniques usually employed on wood, metal, plastic and stone, processes that previously could not be used on papier-mâché. These allow for the most optimal expression of the unique flexibility and malleability of this innovative material, so that it can be modelled in many 2D or 3D shapes, geometries, patterns, and sizes.

The company was founded by the architect Riccardo Cavaciocchi, with offices in Lecce and in New York, in order to create new approaches, as well as to fill gaps in the markets of contemporary architecture, interior design, and the arts. Paper Factor also invites diverse professionals to interact and creatively participate in the experimentation process.

Paper Factor is a patented product.

A family business: from restoration to design

About

With its origin in the production of papier-mâché, the compound was created in Italy. It has been tested, finalized and used for over 35 years in the art of restoration by the accomplished restorer Lidiana Miotto, founder of the Centre for Paper Restoration of Lecce (Centro Restauro Materiale Cartaceo).

Today her son, Riccardo Cavaciocchi, has brought this cellulose compound to the contemporary interior design field, developing new methods and techniques for production.

The artisanal tradition of one of the most creative regions of the South of Italy; the precision and care of the restoration procedures — internationally renowned and awarded; innovative experimentation with matter and form: all of these factors launch PAPER FACTOR products to the forefront of materials of the future, for their functionality and versatility, their lightness, and their ecological value.

High-Tech Artisanal

Process

The variety of Paper Factor patterns is potentially infinite. The impasto is worked with natural pigments, pressed carefully by hand onto molds obtained from digital supports and dried slowly in a special drying chamber, a purpose-built prototype that allows for production on a large scale while still respecting artisanal excellence. The dried products are trimmed, calibrated and polished with manual and CNC machines. The molds can be produced on demand by exploring two-dimensional or three-dimensional scenarios, whether it be shapes, patterns or textures made to measure: just like a tailor's shop.

This innovative process answers the quest in the world of design and architecture for new manufacturing techniques and new ways of expression. Paper Factor is ever-ready to evolve within a framework of proactive collaborations with designers and architects.

Installing

For application onto walls and ceilings, Factor Paper products are ready for interlocking assembly, guaranteeing stability and continuity among the elements with an integrated joint system on the panels, achieved through milled channels. The panels are supplied on 10mm-thick wooden supports (poplar plywood or marine plywood). This allows for the use of standard installation methods, such as clips, bayonets, screws, and glues. The Paper Factor panels do not require joins, unless the customer asks for them. For joins, common stucco for wood or masonry surfaces may be used, mixed with pigments to obtain the desired coloration. Upon request, the edges can be chamfered.

Surface protection

Our protective treatments are stain-resistant and increase resistance to wear and tear. Upon request, one can obtain variations in surface finishes, making use of colorless wax and specific treatments. Reapplication of the treatment is recommended over time.

Care and maintenance

Once the installation is complete, dust should be removed with a soft brush. A more thorough cleaning can be done with a soft cloth, slightly moistened with water.
For regular care and maintenance, we recommend using a soft brush to eliminate dust deposits. The use of acidic or highly alkaline detergents can damage the surfaces of Paper Factor products.
Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the type of detergent. The water-repellent surface treatment protects against stains from liquids.
For stubborn grease stains, a degreaser diluted in warm water can be used. Avoid treating Paper Factor products with chemical solvents, paint, acetone, paint thinner, detergents containing bleach, caustic soda, oily soaps, descaling agents, and abrasive and micro-abrasive detergents and sponges.
Paper Factor is not responsible for damages caused by the use of inappropriate products on surfaces.

A vocation of sustainability: eco design meets design for environment

Green

Paper Factor has a determined and honest attitude towards sustainability. Its vision for the future starts with the example provided by its products. The fibers, obtained from recycled paper or FSC certified forests, are colored with natural pigments and machines that conserve 70% of the energy to be reused for each subsequent cycle. 30% comes from the sun. All other production activities require no energy other than that of hands. All of the products can be reused and re-converted. Finally, whatever is left behind in production is reused, greatly reducing industrial waste.
